Bracken was diagnosed with chronic lymphatic leukaemia (CLL) in January 2023. “My treatment journey has been very up and down. It’s been relentless, tiring, and painful, both mentally and physically. But I was able to join a CAR-T trial in July 2024 and thanks to this new treatment, funded by Blood Cancer UK researchers, my cancer is finally going down!
I started fundraising because, without the research funded by Blood Cancer UK, I wouldn’t be here. Fundraising is a very small way I can say ‘thank you’ and raise awareness of blood cancer to as many people as possible. I also want to keep the researchers going so they can continue to save thousands of lives and one day hopefully find a cure for blood cancer.
In April 2023 I hosted my first fundraiser and raised £2,355! In March, I took part in Walk of Light and walked eight miles a week after my chemo treatment. As long as my body doesn’t stop me, I will be taking part in Walk the World!
If you’re thinking of signing up, then do it! Alongside raising awareness and money for this amazing charity, it has so many other benefits for your mental and physical health. Get your friends and family involved! Make it a competition and have fun with it! Together we can beat blood cancer.”
